The Challenge

The Media Relations team at the City of Sydney provides focused media releases and a high-resolution image library to journalists. They wanted to streamline their internal process in outputting media releases to specific target audiences, in turn raising the profile of the City. They also wanted a smarter way of providing access to their media releases and image library, and a better mechanism to 'relate' media releases with other content and images (eg. for campaigns such as Chinese New Year).

Their audiences range primarily from media representatives who possess a sound knowledge of Australia, to international journalists who have limited knowledge. The website needed to increase the rate of registration to the media releases and image library, as well as improving usability.

To coincide with this rebuild, the visual design needed to reflect a more vibrant attitude, in harmony with the City of Sydney style and brand.

The Solution

Morpheum installed the Lantern content management system and integrated it with the City's image database.

Functionally, the new website has increased usability in many areas. The media releases have become more prominent, allowing thorough and speedy access to all news. The releases are indexed by subject and date, providing multiple views for different needs, and an advanced search option provides further capability to the experienced user.

An interim step between the media releases and the image library ensures the most appropriate image can be allocated in context to the news item.

The visual design has boosted the profile of the City of Sydney bringing the elements of this bright, progressive and diverse city to life in a tapestry of colour, culture and architecture.
